Found project: St. Paul Monastery Church

Project : St. Paul Monastery Church

Language variant : Iglesia conventual de San Pablo

Architect : Torquemada, Juan de (commissioner)

    Completion: 1468

    Locality : Valladolid

    Country : Spain

    Building style : Plateresque

    Description :

Nowhere was the copying of retablos so obvious as at Valladolid. Here the facades of San Pablo (1486-1492) and the college of San Gregorio (Museo Nacional de Escultura) are surcharged with ornament, the former in a style recalling Simon de Colonia (whose father was Hans of Cologne).

(The decoration, known as Gothic Plateresque, is often termed Isabelline, because it was almost confined to the reign of Isabella.)
