    Description :

Salamanca’s Plaza Mayor (1720–1733) is a fine example of restrained Churrigueresque.

Between 1693 and 1696 Jose de Churriguera moved to Salamanca and within fifty years, his family and pupils had turned Salamanca into a Churrigueresque city. In 1710 Andres Garcia Quinones appears to have designed the Ayuntamiento and Plaza Mayor, one of the finest town-planning schemes of the period, as a memorial of Philip V.’s visit, and work was actually begun in 1720. Quinones was assisted by his son Jeronimo, and by two younger Churrigueras.
