"The public library of Tours is a building by the architects Pierre Patout, Jean Dorian and Charles Dorian.
A fire, caused by the German artillery shootings in June 1940, has destroyed the former library and which devastated the downtown area. Its reconstruction was entrusted in 1948 to the architect Pierre Patout, who was in charge generally of the rebuilding of the district. The construction took place between 1954 and 1957, was led by Jean and Charles Dorian, who simplifed the plan of Patout. The library, a typical building of the reconstruction period, was opened in 1957 and has been a historical monument since December 31, 1961."
