Westerkerk is a fine Renaissance church (1620), which is development of the earlier Zuiderkerk.
The 85 metres high spire is made up of decreasing cube-like sections and is topped by the imperial crown from the Amsterdam coat of arms. There is still a gateway to the churchyard adjoining the tower.
Rembrandt’s grave is situated in the interior.
