Adolf Loos designed the American Bar (or Kärntner Bar) in 1908. The interior is only 4.40 × 6.00 × 4.10 m tall. Mirrors give the room added depth. The materials used are wood, glass, brass and onyx. This little bar in a side street (Kärntner Durchgang Nr. 10) is one of the early works of architectural Modernism in Vienna. The bar was restored in 1989 by Burkhardt Rukschcio.
