    Description :

Salamanca Cathedral was consecrated in 1160. The apses are roofed with semi-domes but the rest of the church has quadripartite vaults, and the pointed arch is employed almost everywhere except in the design of the windows. Although the church has certain Gothic features, it is typical of late Spanish Romanesque in its massive construction, huge pillars, plain capitals, many of them supporting curious battlemented abaci, and in retention of the heavy transverse arches across each bay of the nave.
