    Description :

“Featureless as the interior seems today, it was originally even more abstract, with nothing on the walls; nor were there the larger lighting units at the bottom of the long chain-fixtures, nor was the concrete frame’s shadowy outline apparent on the now no longer so white plaster.”

“In a sense this simple massing, these plain white surfaces, could almost belong to an idealized Mediterranean peasant church; so too might the basic symmetry, the deliberately pitched vestigial roof, and the square windows set traditionally within a massive apparently load-bearing wall, which in fact is not.”

“One is also reminded of Le Corbusier, who alluded to a time, ‘when the cathedrals were white’, while knowing they had blazed with barbaric colour—even as here Schwarz, the proponent of a renewed archaic Christianity, sought his ancient faith in white, 20th century asceticism.”
