    Description :

This church has been named after apostle Peter’s chains (vincoli). According to the legend two different chains existed. One, which Peter had been imprisoned with in Jerusalem, was donated by empress Eudoxa to Leo I (440–461). The other one had kept the apostle fettered in Rome. When they were placed next to each other, they were miraculously merged to one. The chains are exposed under the high altar in the space provided with windows, the Confessio.
