«Our next visit to the shady garden just inside the ancient citadel which contains the türbes of Osman Gazi and Orhan Gazi – 19th century reconstructions after the earthquake of 1855. Osman Gazi, who had set his heart on capturing Bursa and had besieged it for many years, lived just long enough to hear the news that his son ad at last captured the city. Later Orhan brought his father’s body to Bursa for re-burial in a converted Byzantine chapel on this site. It was roofed with lead, which shone so brightly that it was called Gümüşlü Türbe, the silvery tomb.
Orhan’s tomb, side by side with his father in the original church complex, still retains some of the Byzantine mosaic floor. In the garden between the tombs the names of Osman Gazi and Orhan Gazi have been picked out miniature box hedges; but the best feature is the view over the town and the valley bellow.»
